About Glasgow North East by-election

The Glasgow North East constituency was represented by Michael Martin, who had been MP for Glasgow Springburn since 1979. He was elected Speaker of the House of Commons in 2000, and announced he was resigning in June 2009. He was also confirmed he was resigning as an MP, sparking a by-election to be held on November 12.
