A Highlands family who are facing deportation from the UK are due to give evidence to a committee of MPs.

The home affairs select committee will hear from Kathryn and Gregg Brain, who moved from Australia to Dingwall with their son Lachlan in 2011.

Immigration minister James Brokenshire will also be at the committee on Tuesday.

The family's campaign to remain in the country following the withdrawal of a post-study work visa has made headlines around the world.

Nicola Sturgeon wrote to home secretary Theresa May on May 16 asking the her to "urgently clarify" why the family could not stay in the country.

The Brain family came to Scotland during an immigration scheme which has since expired.

Since settling in Scotland the Brains have put Lachlan through the local Gaelic-medium education school.

Due to the intensive Gaelic education he has not been taught to read or write English.

The family claim if he is deported to Australia he would be two years behind his peers in the school system.
